Editorial standards

Building advice in Queensland is regulated. Journalism is not a licence. These rules keep the two apart.

We are a journal, not a builder

Custom Homes QLD does not hold a QBCC contractor licence, does not price houses, and does not supervise sites. Nothing on this site is professional building, engineering, legal, insurance or financial advice. Before you sign a contract, speak to a licensee, a certifier and, if the money is large, a solicitor who knows the Queensland Home Building Contracts regime.

Sources and dates

We prefer primary sources: the National Construction Code, QBCC public pages, council planning schemes, CSIRO soil notes, BOM climate data. Regulations move. Essays date the rule they rely on and tell you to check the current instrument. If a statute has changed and we have not yet updated a piece, email a correction.

Corrections

Factual errors are corrected in the article and, where the error changed a recommendation, noted at the top. Send the URL and the sentence to the contact desk. We do not quietly rewrite history to spare embarrassment.

Conflicts and sponsored links

Staff and guests must declare a financial interest in a product, builder, certifier or land sale mentioned in an essay. Paid links, affiliate codes and commercially required URLs are labelled in the copy and given rel="sponsored". We do not accept payment for an unmarked ranking or a fake owner testimonial.

Voice

Australian English. Specific Queensland places. Respect for trades. Scepticism toward national display-home marketing that ignores cyclones, flood plains and reactive clay. The historic Custom Homes QLD line — modern, stylish, functional, tropical — is a design ethic, not a sales pitch for a living company.
